This Week: From The Ground Up
Continuing with the theme of building a solid foundation from the ground up, let’s talk about the Olympic lifts. There are only two Olympic Lifts; the Clean & Jerk, and the Snatch. Building a great base with these lifts is so important to becoming a more efficient CrossFit athlete overall. At Carolina CrossFit we are not looking to make everyone competitive level lifters. As trainers, we are trying to empower you with the knowledge and technique regarding the lifts to help make you a more well rounded athlete and better CrossFitter. So much of CrossFit is steeped in the olympic movements. Gaining knowledge, technique, and a firm foundation in the lifts will not just make you stronger in the gym, but outside the gym as well. When executed properly, these movements are safe and can make an individual stronger and more explosive across the board as an athlete.
In short, don’t be afraid of these lift days. Get in the gym and practice them. You will never get better if you don’t seek out what you fear and practice what you are not good at. In the words of Coach Glassman, “We fail at the margins of our experience.” What does that mean? It means if you only practice what you are good at, you will never be good at anything else. If you only run and bike long distances, you probably aren’t good at Olympic Lifts, and if you are an awesome lifter, you probably stink at running a 5k. Never specialize. Seek out those things that you are not good at and make it a point to build a solid foundation of knowledge and technique at those things. If you don’t know what to do, find a trainer who does. That’s why we’re here!

I’ve been at the beach since last Friday. The weather has been wonderful! I decided I was going to take all week off from working out until I saw Warren’s video yesterday. I got big time inspired and could resist no longer. (I think we should all give “The Warren” a try!
Went to CF Myrtle Beach last night with intentions of doing Fran, but ended up doing their workout instead. It was “Twins” from the mainboard posted a couple of days ago. 2 rounds of 750m rows and 20 HDPU’s then 2 rounds of 115lb thrusters x 20 and 20 L-pullups. Took me about 21 minutes. Represented CCF well. Coming home tomorrow. See everybody on Friday.
-BMo
I’m inspired. Warren, Anna and BMO are working out on vacation, Kevin and Michelle are working out on their honeymoon. You gotta love our tribe of crazy people!!!!
Karen,
Ask Paul about the 15k run we did last year on vacation at Litchfield Beach along with being the only two guys throwing kettlebells on the beach. Paul hit a dog with a 2 POOD KB but ran before the owners showed up.
Thx to all those who pushed me through my first Rx Fran yesterday. Because of Soto and Bobbi, both my hands are all torn up so I will be unable to work out today, not to mention the fact that I will also be unable to do certain solo activities. If this doesn’t resolve itself in the near future, I’ll be needing volunteers.
Crazy question, but does anyone have any 70′s shorts I can borrow…for all of you who know my RO, they need them for him to wear…yes..some end of the year production and they want Ben to wear them. If you have any, please drop them off to the gym ASAP for me!!
I will take pictures for black mail if you need me too! LOL
Yes, PB and Soto took rings and hung them from the BB goal to do muscle-ups, a KB and ran. They were and still are so on CCF crack. Not only that, but they were taking pictures to document their workouts. Shanna and I were doing the chase the kids workout..
Anyway, have a great day!!! Also, Karen—I won’t be eating with Brian A. either. I am a “bad carb” lover according to the zone book.
Dot
I loathe Olympic lifts. I am so uncoordinated I usually end up looking like I had a few cocktails before I came in on lift days! But, like Zig Ziglar said: “Anything worth doing, is worth doing poorly until you learn to do it well.”
HECK YEAH!
Wednesday morning MAD PROPS go out to BMO, Warren, Anna, Michelle and Kevin!
The 6-8amers worked the Hang Snatch this morning and we saw alot of determination and better technique. So congrats to all. Most important thing is to stay calm and not get your mind too far wrapped around the lift. Just let it happen — as Coach Bobbi always says, “Don’t think, just do!”
See everyone this afternoon – i have a beastly amount of work to do here, let me get back to it…..sigh…..and……ugh!
Hey guys!! Thanks for all the kind words. We are back in town and are looking forward to seeing everyone on Friday!!
BMo – I thought I was going to come in there and throw that sandbag around. Come on, 80lbs right?? Well, I was SADLY mistaken!! SO many things change when the weight isn’t on a bar or doesn’t have a handle. I didn’t think for a second it was going to be as tough as it was. For you and some of the other guys it might not be that hard, I however got five fingers across the face!! It would be cool to be able to do it again with the CCF family…
See you all on Friday!!
Josh

“Josh” looks like a fun one. BMO’s twins looked pretty tough. I got a little 5k vested run in yesterday and barely finished before June. I will volunteer Spigner to help Victor with his sinning ways
