Ready, Set, Go!

This Week: How Fit Are You?

So, being fit is not just posting numbers on a white board or a website.  It’s not just being really strong, or really fast.  What is it?  It’s being well rounded and pretty darn good at everything, not just perfect at one or the other.

Being fit is a lifestyle.  It is not something you will achieve in an hour a day at the gym 4 days per week.  It is something that will always be a work in progress.  It does not just involve working out though, it also involves the “D” word…DIET.

If you are working hard in the gym everyday and then die of a heart attack because your arteries are clogged, what good is a fast run time or a heavy deadlift?  I encourage all of you to look at your diets and evaluate what you are eating.  I also encourage you to check some of the “internal” markers of fitness, like blood pressure, cholesterol levels, etc…

“They have no struggles, their bodies are healthy and strong.  They are free from the burdens common to man; they are not plagued by human ills.” Psalm 73:4-5

  7. Karen says:

There’s nothing like running a 5k in the sweltering heat………..you gotta love this place. Everybody drink your water today!!!!!

Hey Garris, If I come to the game can I play after several beers?

  8. Garris says:

Eric, what joke? I must have missed it. But I am sure that I was not offended. That is pretty hard to do. I can dish as well as take

  9. Rayna says:

Oh no, not Running!!!! The last time I attempted a 5k the results were…. no bueno! I think I am supposed to work late tonight, for something. Hmmmmm. :-/

Eric, Now you have me curious. What was the joke?

  13. Lisa says:

    Fun Fun….running.

I’m glad I rolled my buns out of bed at a decent hour this morning.

The 6pm class has my sincerest condolances. :p

  14. Joshua McMahon says:

The first part of the post is a great point. How can people feel they are an “elite” athlete and competitor when they stay in their “safe” zone. This means that if you are going at pull ups, doing well in a pull up workout should not be a surprise to you. This being said you should always always being working on your weakiness. It is always good to see someone struggling with double unders one week and the next stringing together sets of 20s. They did not get that improvement by not doing double unders, they got that by struggling through their weakiness. I challenge everyone to spend one week and put a weakiness of yours in your warm up, and see how much you can improve in that area, then move on to the next

  15. dawn says:

Good luck on Friday Garris – wish I could be there to watch!

  16. Karen says:

Congrats to Joyce, THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING WOMAN!!!!!

  17. Karen says:

Everyone, don’t forget to make plans to come and donate blood one day next week!!!! I’ve told my co-workers that my friends are WAYYYY hotter than theirs.

  18. Sanders says:

Karen – I went to donate at 2:45 and they were closed – how to we tell them to give you credit?

  19. Karen says:

Thanks Sanders!!!!! Oh I will let them know!!!!
The donor room closes early on Thursday – Saturday because a lot of people like to rock out a cheap drunk on those nights after giving blood!!! Funny, but very dangerous!

    The hours are:
    Mon – Wed 11:00 – 7:00
    Th – Sat 7:00 – 2:00
This Tuesday the 7th the donor room will be open 7am – 7 pm

  20. Sanders says:

thanks, Karen – I will be there next week- tell them some of your friends rom CCF are old and not hot, but they still have blood – have a happy 4th – unless I see you at 6 am tomorrow – hope the WOD tomorrow is something patriotic like “flag waving” or “parade marching”

  21. Karen says:

AWESOME!!!!! We will tie a rope to the ceiling and you can show everyone how to climb it!! Now, that’s hot!

If we have a parade marching WOD, they would probably make us carry a kettlebell and lunge it all the way down Blanding street……..

  22. Karen says:

I think tomorrow’s WOD should be “drinking beer and watch Garris dominate the less fortunate, Columbia Blowfish” How about it Bobbi?

  23. Lisa says:

If we have a parade marching WOD, they would probably make us carry a kettlebell and lunge it all the way down Blanding street…….. shhhh….you’ll give them ideas. :)

Are there folks planning to go to the stadium as a group, or is it sort of an ‘every man for himself’ kind of thing?

  24. Karen says:

I would love to go and watch those college kids mop the floor with the old guys…….oops

  25. Karen says:

We could all meet at the gym and go as a team!!! who’s up for it?

  26. Lisa says:

    I’m game…
    …oops.

    anyone still awake?
